I was born and raised in Mississippi and have resided in Alabama since 1984.  My husband and I currently share homes in both Hoover, AL, and Mentone, AL.  I have an undergraduate degree in Advertising and Marketing from the University of Alabama and worked in advertising, PR and sales for most of my career.  I have always been involved in art in some form or another, most recently furniture finishing, jewelry making and oil painting.  I studied oil painting with a couple of Birmingham artists before landing in painting classes with noted Birmingham artist David Nichols where I feel I have finally found my niche.  My mostly shadow-and-light paintings are inspired by the beauty of nature and other subjects that speak to me through color, composition, uniqueness and even nostalgia. I also enjoy plein air painting and am experimenting with mixed media.  I am on the Board of Directors of the Mentone Area Arts Council and am a member of the Shelby County Arts Council and the Mountain Brook Art Association.

I started working in glass in 1980, creating mosaic art and kiln fused glass jewelry, bowls, and using dichroic glass in some of the mosaic panels.

Scott Thomas is a self-taught artist that works predominately with acrylic paint on 3 dimensional objects as well as canvas.  Growing up in a mill village in Northwest Georgia, Scott credits his grandmother’s quilt making as the inspiration for his unique style.  Scott turned to painting as a creative outlet at the age of 58 and has been passionately pursuing this art form for the past 8 years.  After gaining confidence as well as recognition through regional art shows, Scott’s work is now available through galleries.

Kathryn Wheeler

Originally from Birmingham, I spent 40 years in the mountains of Colorado and moved to Mentone in 2013.

I worked as a graphic designer for 25 years before going back to my fine art, painting with watercolor, oil, pastel, etc. While in Colorado, I also worked with Interior Decorators and did customized work for individuals and businesses. I developed a Bas-Relief technique that I first put directly on walls in homes and businesses, then later, started creating relief designs as individual hanging art forms.

My works are part of private and public collections, including: Galatyn Lodge/Vail, Colorado; Ellefson Park/Vail, Colorado; Vail Valley Hospital/ Vail, Colorado; Vail Integrative Medical Group/Edwards, Colorado; Harold W. Mary Louise Shaw Regional Cancer Center/Edwards, Colorado; Westin Hotel/Vail, Colorado; Montana Designs/Big Sky, Montana; The Aspen Institute/Aspen, Colorado; Ritz Carlton Club/Snowmass, Colorado. I am represented by Kamama's Gallery/Mentone, Alabama.
